October 15, 2006 – Sausalito Art Walk Update
The final Sausalito Art Walk of 2006 brought us to the warm and welcoming Lady Bug Floral Shop on Bridgeway in Sausalito. Our host, Mauro, was gracious enough to let us display photography, play music, and serve food and drink amongst his tasteful displays of exotic flowers, plants, and beautiful gift items. Thanks to 9-year-old Nolan, our friend from our Sausalito houseboat days, we also enjoyed a festive display of balloons.
The culinary adventure for this round: baked brie with caramelized onions and roasted almonds. It was gone in record time! Our apologies for the confusion with the chocolate covered almonds – they were intended to be a sweet treat. Turns out they look just like Kalamata olives. What fun for a 9-year old boy to watch the surprised and confused faces of sophisticated Sausalito art lovers finding themselves with a mouthful of sweet, crunchy chocolate almonds when they were expecting a nice, soft, savory mouthful of salty Grecian delicacies. Oh well. We meant well.
Lots of new friendships were formed, both human and canine alike, and lots of exciting new news abounded. Local biz wiz Elizabeth has taken over Caledonia hot spot Café De Vino, and we all heaved a huge sigh of relief to discover that despite her expertise in both the Greek and French traditions, she loves and adores the warm comfort we have all come to rely on in Café De Vino’s home-spun Italian fare and inspiring live Jazz performances. She’s retaining our favorite chef, Elena, who is as authentic in her Italian cooking as she is in her genuine and generous Italian mama style hugs and well wishes. No wonder the food tastes so darn good. Just watch out for her dog, Pepe, who is the most good-hearted and spirited sort of a Tazmanian Devil you will ever meet. (Note to fellow dog owners, no dog toy is safe if you turn your back for just a single second! But don’t take it personally if your expensive toy vanishes at his paw. He will graciously return any merchandise with a mischievous grin…)
Shortly after the Art Walk the fun turned to Saylor’s South of the Border, where our friend, Sean Saylor, had an entertaining run-in with Rock Star Sammy Hagar. There’s to be a “Cabo Wabo Room” soon filled with Sammy Hagar memorabilia. The path to the room needs some stellar Mexico-inspired photography, which BMarshallDesign is poised to provide – hooray! See our “Friends” page for more details…
